The Skin Puppet

The skin puppet was traditional Indonesian art, that especially developed in Java and on the east of the Malaysian peninsula like in Kelantan and Terengganu.
The skin puppet was played by a mastermind who also became the narrator of leading figures's dialogue of the puppet, with was accompanied by gamelan music that was played a group nayaga and the lyric that was sung by pesinden.
The mastermind played the skin puppet over the screen, that is the screen that was made from white cloth, temporary behind disorotkan electricity light or oil light (blencong), so as the spectators that was on the other side from the screen could see the puppet shadow that fell to the screen.
To be able to understand the puppet story (the act), the spectator must have knowledge would leading figures of the puppet that his shadow appeared in the screen.
Generally the puppet took the story from the Mahabharata text and Ramayana, but was not restricted only with pakem (standard) this, ki the mastermind could also play the act carangan (the composition).
Several stories were taken from the Standard story.
